Ron Kananen’s litigation and patent career spans five decades. He has prosecuted numerous patents and trademarks for Japanese companies including Komatsu, Nissan and Sony, as well as provided counsel on trade secrets, copyrights, licensing and infringement matters. Ron’s practice also includes patent preparation and prosecution, opinion work and counseling for a variety of domestic and foreign corporations.

Ron began his career at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He was then a law clerk for Associate Judge Arthur M. Smith of the Court of Customs and Patent Appeals in 1966-67. He has tried numerous cases before the ITC, and participated in numerous trademark trials.

Ron is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University.
