Leigh Taggart is a partner of the firm. He is a highly experienced intellectual property attorney who litigates patent, trademark, antitrust and trade secret matters throughout the United States. In recent cases he has successfully litigated and mediated patent and antitrust disputes in the medical device, silicon wafer, automotive and commercial jet engine industries, receiving accolades from clients, judges and co-counsel. Leigh has also successfully represented clients in trademark and trade secret cases. One significant victory included using a laches defense to obtain dismissal of contempt proceedings alleging trademark infringement in violation of a consent judgment. In an earlier action on behalf of a trademark owner, Leigh helped to establish initial interest confusion as a viable Internet trademark infringement theory in the Tenth Circuit. He has also litigated trademark and other commercial business disputes in Mexico, Italy, Portugal, Turkey and the United Kingdom. As Appellate Counsel, Leigh has briefed numerous patent and trademark appeals including working with other Rader, Fishman & Grauer attorneys on a Cert Petition to the United States Supreme Court.
Before joining Rader, Fishman & Grauer, Leigh was general counsel and secretary of Rexair, Inc. (now Rexair LLC), a $100 million consumer products company which was then a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jacuzzi Brands, Inc. There he supervised the protection of a global patent and trademark portfolio valued in excess of $20 million.
Leigh has also lectured in the Federal Litigation Seminar at Cornell University Law School. He serves as Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He also periodically speaks for the Lorman Education and the Michigan Institute for Continuing Legal Education on various legal topics.
Active in community projects and events, Leigh has organized musical events for nursing homes residents and has worked closely with the Clinton River Watershed Council to conduct an annual series of river clean-up activities. His leisure pursuits include golf, fly fishing and skiing.
